"Jade Dragon Snow Mountain - Glacier Park
was so wonderful and beautiful !!!"
We travelled to Lijiang in June and took a tour to Yulong arranged by World Heritage Network. The mountain is spectacular. As a confirmed urbanite who enjoys the idea of adventure travel, being in close proximity to a glacier without having to do any trekking was exciting. The glacier itself is amazing with it's dirty layers and blue hue. The "trail" is actually a constructed stairway, which makes this some pretty tame mountaineering, but allows for easy walking if you want to attempt to "summit." Some people did leave the path and hiked on the rocky terrain instead, which lended a bit of alpine authenticity. The gondola ride to the top is awe inspiring as you glide high above rugged terrain and odd-shaped, spindly pines. Arriving at the top we didn't feel too cold , but in the earlier part of the day the sun was not yet obscured by the fog that is created by the warming air in contact with the glacial ice. The views are better in the morning as well because of this phenomenon. Our guide provided us oxygen cannisters and they were definitely useful. Living at sea level is not an asset when you suddenly want to walk up stairs at 13,000+ feet. I gave up on walking too far, though one of us did make it to the summit platform (with oxygen). I sat on a bench to people-watch my fellow tourists in their rented parkas, and soon became a tourist attraction myself. Americans are still not that well represented in this part of the world so I was a novelty and posed for several pictures. The mountain is a must see if you are travelling to the Lijiang area. There is also a very nice visitor center at the base with a cafe and information about the natural history of the site. It is very touristy, but fun, and the natural beauty makes it worth the trip. Thanks World Heritage Network for this great tour.

"A Great Time Of My Life!!!"
The entrance fee and various ticketing system were seemingly quite complicated here. We would be at a loss if it were not for our private driver/guide from World Heritage Network. We chose to take the cable car to the Glazier Park. There is a platform at the top about 4506 metres above sea level where you can take picture with a huge stone carved with the number 4506 indicating how high we were at this snow mountain. Later, we visited the following scenic areas the access of which were all covered by a ticket to the so-called "greater Yulong scenic area":

- Lan Yue Gu (
蓝月谷, Blue Moon Valley). You need to take a shuttle bus to reach the series of lakes. Not much hike was needed. Beautiful waters, and definitely worth checking out.
- Yu Zhu Qing Tian (
玉柱擎天). We really enjoyed this place. There were only a few people including our party there. Very quiet and peaceful. Our guide told us the love story associated with this place. The best view was had by climbing up to the top and there you would see the beautiful lake/pond and the nearby village.
- Yu Shui Zhai (
玉水寨). This is the temple for Dongba Jiao (东巴教), the religion of the local Naxi people. Way too many people. I would skip it if time pressed.
- Yu Feng Temple (
玉峰寺). The main attraction of this temple is the 500 year old camellia. Not only its age, but also it's in fact two different camellia fused into one tree! It symbolizes lasting love, and it's considered good luck for couples to have pictures taken with the tree. What's more incredible and moving is the 99 year old lama who risked his life protecting this tree during China's cultural resolution.. Again not many people, and worth checking it out.
- Basha Village. This is where the Basha fresco is, and it was nice taking a stroll in the village as well.
We also watched the Impression Lijiang show. I have reviewed that separately. Bottom line - worth it. The ticket is separate.
Overall it was a well organized tour for us by World Heritage Network and we love every minute of it. Bravo!

"Great performance show & great view at the summit of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain !!!"
We booked a private day trip with World Heritage Network and we spent a day inside the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Geological Park. We were collected from our hotel at 8am and taken to the park in a sudan car . After a couple of stops to take photographs we arrived in the park at about 10:00AM. First up was the Impressions Lijiang outdoor show - a show depicting the lifestyles of the minorty groups in the Lijiang area. The show is a must. With a cast of 400 men and women and 100 horses it is awesome even if you don't understand Chinese!

After the show we were given lunch in a large canteen attached to the theatre. Chinese food (obviously) but tasty and sufficient., then on to one of the three cable car stations in the park for a 3 kilometre ride up to the tourist centre on the mountain. We got off the cable car at 4500 metres and then hiked up to the top viewing platform at 4636 metres - 15,200 feet above sea level. We had been given cans of oxygen and warm clothes to wear by our guide but I found neither to be necessary. In fairness however quite a number of people were using oxygen and wearing the clothes but whether they really needed them or had just been told to use them I don't know.

The views from the cable car and from the viewing platforms were unforgetable, another 'must see' attraction if you go to Lijiang.

Coming down from the mountain we were taken to see an series of blue water lakes and waterfalls. We travelled around the lakes via a trolley buses which we got off and on whenever we pleased. We had a great time though it was only for a day tour. Our guide, Andrew, was superbly friendly and wonderful. It was one of the most enjoyable tours we had ever joined or engaged in China. We highly recommend World Heritage Network for a guided tour to this snowy mountain.  Our guided tour was well organized and fantastic.
